Regional finals have just one upset

No. 2 Putnam City North shrugged off a narrow win in the opening round of their Regional tourney over Norman North on Friday and moved into the Area tourney with no losses with a 79-64 win over Del City on Saturday.

Dennon Mitchell was the workhorse for the Panthers as he scored 29 points. Eric Johnson and Brentrell Friday added 17 and 16 points respectively.

Del City's top scorers were D'Angelo Harris with 19, Zac Netty with 17 and Adrian Norton's 12 points.

Putnam City North will meet Edmond Santa Fe on Friday.

Del City will meet Midwest City in the losers' bracket, also on Friday.

Santa Fe upset No. 3 Midwest City on Saturday, 43-40. The difference might have been the desperation heave by Michael Spinner as the first half ended. The three-pointer for the Wolves sparked SF to start the second half.

Nic Combs scored 17 for the Wolves. Santa Fe also received 12 points from another senior, Ross Morriset.

Midwest City's leading scorers were 5-foot-8 guard Jarrod McDaniel with 11 and 6-foot-6 post Chuck Sanders with 10 points.

In the eastern half of the state, No. 3 Jenks needed an overtime period to defeat Stillwater, 58-56. The Trojans will meet Broken Arrow on Friday.

The Tigers beat Bartlesville, 52-45.

Bartlesville and Stillwater will also meet on Friday.

No. 5 Tulsa Memorial nipped Owasso, 58-57, while Union defeated Edmond Memorial, 64.50.

Tulsa Memorial and Union will meet in the winners' bracket, while Owasso and Edmond Memorial will play each other in the losers' bracket.

The neutral Area sites for Friday and Saturday's games will be announced by the OSSAA.
