Is Towne
big enough to carry the Bulldogs?
Possibly the
most experienced quarterback in the state is Pete Towne, a three-year
starter. The Bulldogs will rely on his arm while they try to develop a new
running back corps to replace last year’s seniors. The defense is very
experienced, which will help.
Players to
watch: Quarterback Towne and defense lineman Zach Wilson.
LAST YEAR: 5-5
PREDICTION:
5-5

Are the
Wolves too fast to catch?
This is going
to be a fun team to watch this season. The Wolves are as quick as anyone in
the state. Running back Randy Ponder will start the run for the playoffs,
but the defense is experienced and is strong with outstanding linebackers.
The Wolves will go deep into the playoffs.
Players to
watch: Linebacker Josh Tebbe and running back Randy Ponder.
LAST YEAR: 6-5
PREDICTION: 9-1

Defense to lead Pirates into playoffs?
New quarterback Nico Watson will run the Pirates’ offense that has been
hampered by the loss of star running back Bobby Smith to an ACL injury
earlier this month, but PC has a history of being deep with running backs.
With a veteran crew on defense, the offense needs to keep from turning the
ball over to their opponent.
Players to watch: Linebacker Greg Cortes and running back Fred Cato.
LAST YEAR: 4-6
PREDICTION: 6-4.

the playoffs the past two seasons, Putnam City North wants back into the
end-of-season tournament.
On offense,
the Panthers will balance the run and pass attack with running back Josh
Booker and quarterback Matt Veazey.
The North
defense will need to come up big for the Panthers to have a winning year.
Players to
watch: Quarterback Veazey and lineman David Lamb.

A new coach
with a new approach equals better results?
Head coach John
Jensen faces a big task: taking a one-win Putnam City West team and teaching
them how to win.
While other
schools were working on their offenses and defenses last spring, the
Patriots were learning basics – like tackling.
The offense will
be run from a double wing formation and include a lot of misdirection. They
should be able to drive the ball and run the clock. They are also capable of
going deep if the defense crowds the line of scrimmage.
Players to
watch: Quarterback Daniel Farrow and defensive lineman Austin Yeargain.
LAST YEAR: 1-9
PREDICTION: 3-7
