PC West claims a road win in Yukon
Road wins are always hard to come by,
but Putnam City West grabbed one in Yukon on Monday night.
The Patriots were playing a game that
had been rescheduled from last month. Maybe that was the reason for
the poor turnout by the Yukon "faithful". And as a result, Yukon
lost their home court advantage.
The lead changed hands four times in the
first nine minutes of the game. But West never let Yukon have the
lead again.
West opened a lead of nine points,
53-44, with 2:40 remaining in the game, when the Millers made one
more run on the Patriots.
The lead was cut to three, 55-52, when
senior Glen Irwin put back an errant shot to move the lead back to
five with 43 seconds to go.
Yukon missed the front side free throw
of a one-and-one. And then the Millers made a tremendous error. A
three point shot went in, but was disallowed because of offensive
goal tending. The Yukon player inside went up to tip in the shot -
or grab the rebound, when he touched the rim - hard. Goal tending
was the call - and no one disagreed. It was unfortunate for Yukon,
but West knows you never look a gift horse in the mouth - especially
on the road!
West added a pair of free throws to win
by seven, 59-52.
Amric Fields played a good game, scoring
14 points for West. Irwin added 12.
