West has an easy time
against US Grant
In a game where Putnam
City West could name their score, they chose 35.
The visiting U. S. Grant
team is not very talented - especially for a 6A team. The two best
plays they could come up with were a 26-yard pass competition in the
fourth quarter and a 15-yard penalty by West for running into the
punter in the second period.
Putnam City West, on the
other hand, chose to generally run the ball into the middle of the
Generals' line. They did open the game in a dramatic way as Daniel
Farrow ran 51 yards for a Patriots; touchdown on the opening snap of
the game.
West followed that with
a 52-yard, 8-play drive that ended with a 3-yard run for a touchdown
by Cooper Hahn. The key play in the possession was a 23-yard run by
Farrow.
The Patriots' third
possession ended like the first two - another touchdown and the
extra point kick by Greg Diaz.
Starting at Grant's
33-yard line, the Pats needed only five plays to reach the end zone
with a 3-yard run into the line by their quarterback, Bryce Stout.
West led 21-0 - and this
was still in the first quarter.
Again Putnam City West
methodically moved the ball downfield. Staring at their 11-yard
line, West needed just 9 plays to score. The drive was capped by
Brandon Carter's 26-yard touchdown run.
Leading by 28 with 1:50
on the clock, West started their final possession of the first half
at the Generals' 40. The Patriots' could have easily scored, but
chose to grind the ball into the line. Their drive moved to the
3-yard line as the half ended.
West led, 28-0.
The second half went
fast - really fast, because of the running clock both coaches agreed
to use.
Grant had three
possessions in the second half, while West had only two.
The only second half
scoring came on an 11-minute, 19-play drive over 72 yards. Backup
quarterback Randall Hamilton went the final yard for the touchdown.
Putnam City West showed
their class in holding the score to 35-0.
